#Author’s POV
The sun above Tokyo sky began to slide to the west. Not
for long time the day would show its dark side. People were busy to walk in
hurry just like in race for arriving home after whole-day activity in office.
Among the passing people, exactly on Inari Bridge that
passed Shibuya River, there was a little girl – about four years old, sat while
folding her knees until reach her chin. Her hand hugged her legs. That girl
cried and looking at the people with worrying sight. Occasionally, her little
hand wiped the snot from her nose. No one looked at her – because they were too
busy with their own business.
That little girl still cried and her crying almost
going to explode because the day had been already dark. The thunder kept striking
and the lightning on the sky made that girl more frightened.
Tik~
A drop of water fell on Ashida (that girl’s name)’s nose.
Rain…
Ashida was just going to loud her crying volume when a
seventeen years old man suddenly squatted in front of her.
“Daijoubu desuka, little girl? Are you getting
lost?” asked the man.
He looked like a kind man, Ashida thought. So she
decided to answer the man whose brown hair.
“Un,” Ashida nodded. “I can not go home,” Ashida
soft voice.
“Where is your house?”
Ashida shook her head, “I don’t know. I even don’t know
what place it is,”
“Hmm… Can you remember something that related to your
house? Something like address, maybe?”
The little girl shook her head again.
Rain drops falling from the sky began to be heavy. The
man who squatted and tried to get information about the little girl immediately
stood and put off his black jacket. He covered Ashida with his jacket and
instructed Ashida to follow him. Ashida followed the man that the body was not
too tall and stopped in front of the café not distance from their place before.
“Well, because it is going to dark, and the rain become
heavier, I will walk you home. Your mother must be worried,” offered that sharp
nose man. Ashida kept silent – doubt.
“Do you know where my house is, Oniisan?”
“Of course I don’t know. But I will get to know,”
answer the man without doubting while smiling. A second later he took outside a
folding umbrella from his bag. “Wear that jacket,” he instructed Ashida. Ashida
obeyed him again. She had no choice except obeying what the man said.
“You are not allowed to talk with
the stranger,”
The advice from her mother running
again in Ashida’s mind. But, if like that, she could not go home. Ashida just hoping
that the man would walk her home – safely.
“Get on,” suddenly the man was squatting again in
front of Ashida.
“Eh,” Ashida did not do that at first. She looked doubt
again.
“Come on, get on my back so I can walk you home,”
Finally Ashida did it and got on to the man’s back. Carrying
Shida on his back, the man who still wore school uniform went along the
sidewalk around Shibuya crossroad. Ashida just thinking that the man with her
was kind person. If not, how came he walked her home, carrying her at the back
and held the umbrella and bag at the same time.
“Oh, little girl, who’s your name?”
“Mana Ashida,” Ashida answered without doubt.
“Ashida-san, I will walk along until you find the clue
that directed to your house. I am sure that you will remind something, how is
it?”
Although she was doubt, but Ashida said yes. She kept
her arms bend around the unknown man’s neck. In a moment, she noticed a good
smell – maybe perfume. Don’t know why, but Ashida felt comfort and safe with
that man.
Approximately ten minutes since they walked, Ashida
looked at something in corner of the street. “Oniisan,” Ashida shouted
in sudden.
“Hai,” he answered. The man immediately
stopped. “What’s up?”
“That’s” Ashida pointed at the neon box above the cookies
shop. “That’s the cookies shop which I usually passed with Mom if I back from
school,”
“Oh, really? So your house is in that way, right?” that
kind man walked to the corner of the road and went along the sidewalk again in
order the little girl could find another clue related to her house.
“Oniisan,” Ashida shouted again. “I think that
building. Try to come closer to that building,”
“Ah, I see,”
After arrived in that building, Ashida stared at the
surrounding. The dark night made her hard to recognize the surrounding. “Over
there, Oniisan. That’s my house,” the little girl pointed at the cream modern-style
building across the road.
“Ah, that’s good,” the man still keep Ashida at his
back and directly crossed the road.
Is it a wonder or what, but the rain suddenly stopped
when Ashida got off from the man’s back. She ran to the door. While someone
opened the door so the lightening from the house shone the yard.
“Kaa-chan…” shouted Ashida. She hugged her
mother.
“Na-chan… Kaa-chan was just going to looking
for you. Where have you been?”
“Morisako-chan and the other asked me to play, but we
were separated and I was getting lost. Fortunately, that brother help me to go
home,” Ashida pointed at the man. The man smiled and bowed – greeting.
“Ah, arigatou…” Ashida’s mother bowed 45
degrees. That man just smiling and answered shortly, “Dou ita,”
After giving back the jacket, Ashida’s mother offered
him to come in and warm his body because his clothes were almost 80 percent
wet. He refused it anyway.
“Come in, Na-chan. Change your clothes, or you will catch
a cold,” Ashida’s mother led her daughter to home.
“Eh, wait Kaa-chan,” Ashida turned around and
called the man, “Oniisan!” the man turned around and gave a short answer,
“Yes,”
“What’s your name?”
The man smiled and answered,
“Yamada Ryosuke desu,” then he returned around
and continued his way.
Ashida kept looking at the man until he really lost in
the dark. “Yamada Ryosuke-kun…” Ashida smiled.
“Someday, I wanna be your wife,”

Won't somebody come take me home
It's a damn cold night
Wont you take me by the hand
